Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry

Welcome to the Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry! This platform allows Altona and Plum Coulee residents to register their cameras with the Altona Police Service and provide their contact information.

The camera registry is a voluntary and free program that allows participants the opportunity to assist police by letting them know if they have security cameras. If police are conducting an investigation and are looking for video, they can contact those on the registry instead of knocking on every door.

How to participate:

  • Sign up and let the Altona Police Service know if you have security cameras.
  • Should a crime occur in the area, police can reach out to those on the camera registry to ask for video that may assist in the investigation.

Click here to launch the registration form.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will police be able to monitor me and my neighbourhood through my camera if I sign up?

No, the registry does NOT give the Altona Police Service direct access to the registered cameras. The only information that you will provide is your name, address, telephone number, the fact that you have cameras, what direction(s) they face and how long the footage is saved.

Do I have to give video to police anytime they ask?

No, you are not obligated to provide video. This is a voluntary program and you are able to decline at any time.

Who will have access to my information, and how will it be used?

The information you provide will be stored inside the Safe Neighborhood Camera Registry (SNCR) and is stored for the sole purpose of the Altona Police Service being able to reach out to you should they need assistance in an investigation. No other police agency has access to this personal information. The SNCR is hosted by Forrest Green Solutions.

What happens if I move, or remove my camera?

If you move dwellings or remove the video camera the information will still be held inside of the SNCR until you log into the registry and change/withdraw the information. You can also request the removal of the information by emailing police.services@altona.ca

How will I be contacted if the police need footage from my camera?

Police will most often call the phone number you provided, but in some instances they may also come to your residence.
